On the border of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, lies Tuddenham Mill, a traditional 18th century watermill which has been sympathetically converted into a boutique hotel, restaurant and bar.
The decor is rustic, yet stylish. Old oak beams give the restaurant bags of character while the fixtures and fittings are sleek and modern. This is in addition to the huge waterwheel displayed proudly behind the bar, alluding to its name and history.
You don't need to just take our word for the standard of the food here though, Head Chef Paul Foster has been turning the heads of critics in the culinary world and receiving many accolades including: ‘Young Chef of the Year 2011’ by the Observer Food Monthly and ‘Up and Coming Chef of the Year 2012’ by The Good Food Guide.
Paul’s cutting-edge culinary skills - including a fondness for foraged ingredients, some from Tuddenham Mill’s own meadow - have been wowing food critics such as Jay Rayner, led to him being chosen to appear on BBC2’s Great British Menu and have recently resulted in him being awarded 3 rosettes by the AA. Also Tuddenham Mill has been named as one of the ‘Top 50 restaurants 2013’ in the UK by The Good Food Guide 2013.
The restaurant’s ethos is to support local suppliers where possible, and the menu is designed to take advantage of the seasonal specialities from nearby. Some of the food might seem unusual – hare lasagne, fallow deer and pig’s head terrine are just a few of the options - but it isn’t all weird and wonderful. Big, juicy steaks, duck, lamb and fish are also bound to help the awards keep on coming.
Tuddenham Mill is also a hotel but it isn’t just the hotel guests that choose to dine here. Guests come from afar to eat here; such is the kudos that it has gained. If you can’t face making the journey home after your meal, the hotel has 15 rooms, all with over-sized beds, huge bathtubs and sumptuous Elemis products, to help you relax and sleep off your full stomach.
